Germany's election on February 23rd is likely to be the most consequential in Europe this year – including for the UK. The British government has prioritised the development of economic and security relations with Germany, and a bilateral treaty is likely to be finalised once the new German government is in place. The CER and HSF are pleased to host a discussion of the implications of the election result. Panellists will consider what the next German government might do to stimulate economic growth; what approach it might take to EU issues, including the EU's relationship with the UK; how it will address Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine; and what changes, if any, the new government might make to the draft UK-Germany bilateral treaty.
