A week that will define Europe – what happens if we leave the EU?
The Centre for European Reform’s director Charles Grant believes that a Brexit result would also set the wheels in motion for a new Conservative Leadership contest.
Mr Grant, who helped found the pro-European think tank, told Express.co.uk: “I’m sure if Cameron loses, he will resign or say he will resign quite quickly.”...
...Mr Grant said: “I would expect by September, the British Government would implement Article 50 as set out in the Treaty of Lisbon.”...
...But Mr Grant said that he believes that these statements will “mostly amount to hot air”, rather than concrete plans for the future of the union.
He said: “My prediction would be although there will be grand declarations about the need to stand together, there will be little of substance.”...
...Mr Grant said that a Brexit would boost the “energy, determination and confidence” of Eurosceptic parties such as the the National Front in France.
He said: “They are praying for Brexit. They will believe they can win and that their dreams will come true. If Britain leaves, they can leave.”
