"The sheer scale of the violence and the chaos of the last couple of weeks has astonished a lot of Europeans and forced them to pay attention," said Rem Korteweg, an expert on security issues at the CER. The proposed European Union force "is nowehere near big enough to stop the violence and will only be a Band-aid", he added. "It is a symbolic measure but is still very significant as it shows Brussels is getting engaged in a crisis that goes far beyond just the Central Africa Republic."
